One of our heritage turkeys - hatched on the farm

We offer limited quantities of meat from animals that we raise here on our farm:  Our animal are raised the way Mother Nature intended: in small social groups, access to clean water, fresh air, organic pasture, fed non-gmo and organic feeds.

Concerned about where your meat comes from?
I know I am.
I was a vegetarian for 20 years - concerned about the quality of life that animals suffered in order to put cheap meat on the dinner table.

I remember our first batch of chickens that we raised so that we could have laying hens.   After about half of them turned out to be roosters - I had to make the call.  I waited as long as I could, but then the day came I could no longer postpone the inevitable: I had to call Eli, the Poultry Man.  I sobbed after I hung up the phone to arrange for their one-way ride to the butcher.   For years I would arrange with a friend to take them for the drive to Eli, not wanting to be the one to deliver them to their final destination.

Now, after many years of raising chickens, turkeys, pigs and cows destined for the dinner table, I see it differently.
Now I'm the one who catches them, loads them and takes them for the short drive to the local butcher.  I want to make sure they're calm and happy until the last moment, handled gently.
But I do it with gratitude, knowing I am participating in the dance of life that we are all part of.
